On Saturday I turned 28 years old. It feels kind of daunting as there are a lot of things I would like to accomplish this year. I won't get into it though, as I'm sure it would be quite boring for everyone. Because both my husband and I had to work on my actual birthday, we had been doing little things throughout the week to celebrate. My favorite thing that we did was go to a screening of my 2nd favorite movie, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, at the historic Paramount Theater.
We sat in the mezzanine which gave us a great view of the entire theater. I was really concerned about the showing selling out, but apparently a silent movie at 9:15 on a Tuesday night isn't hugely popular as we ended up being one of the few couples on the second level. I have to say, it was probably the best cinema experience of my life thus far.
As for my birthday present, my husband got me an amazing gift, 2 tickets to see Mark Kozelek. I am so so excited. I saw him once before when he opened for Mojave 3 while I was living in London and it was AMAZING. My husband however, has never seen him. It's particularly special for us as his music is the soundtrack to our relationship, especially his work with The Red House Painters.
He's been in various bands like the Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon, plus you may recognize him from small parts he's had in films such as Shop Girl and Almost Famous. He's an amazing songwriter and has a wonderful voice. September 21st can't get here fast enough!
