ASOS Dress Review

A few posts back I wrote about how my ASOS package had been lost in the mail and how horribly sad I was that it happened. Well, I used the refund to buy another dress and it came in the post today...yay! I had been watching the ASOS website like mad everyday waiting to find a dress that I wanted, and then I saw the Khaki 50s Waisted Dress. I loved the cut, the little ruffle around the bottom, and the fact that it was 100% cotton, so I ordered it.
The fabric was better than I expected. It's that kind of thick-ish linen type fabric that you often see with vintage dresses, it's just a little bit rough, in the BEST possible way. Before I say this next bit, I do have to say, that I really like this dress, quite a bit actually, but there are 3 things that bum me out a bit, but not enough for me to not like it.

1st, it is VERY short on me. Now I realize that at 6ft tall, I'm above the average in height, so on anyone shorter it would work very well.  That being said, I will absolutely wear this dress with short leggings in the summer, but will wear it over jeans in the winter.
2nd, the black band around the waist gets lost. The weird thing is, the dress fits like a glove, not too tight, not to loose, just perfect. But, the black band keeps rolling up on me and I have to constatly pull it down, which is why I've just put a belt over it.
3rd, I feel like the print looks a little like camo from far away, which is sort of terrible, as I hate, hate, hate camo. However, when you actually look at it, the print doesn't look like camo at all. So that's kind of sucky. As I'm not the camo wearing type. I'll need other opinions on this please!

Now that I've had my say, here are some photos:

Pretty Prints & Left Overs

Well, I hope all of my American readers had a lovely Thanksgiving and my non-American readers had a fantastic Thursday. This year's autumn here in Austin has been unseasonably warm and until yesterday had been in the 80°s, but now it finally feels like fall at a cool 55°. Today being Black Friday and all, I have decided to stay home; so far only leaving the house to take Penny for a walk. I think I'll spend the rest of the day munching on left overs and making jewelry in preparation for my booth at a few holiday bazaars I will be selling at next weekend.

Today I wore the 2nd of the 4 dresses I received from a co-worker. This one isn't as warm as the others and because of it's circular shape has a tendency to fly directly up in the slightest bit of wind, but it's no trouble and I really like it.

Best Customer Service EVER!

I recently purchased the Tatum Dress from Lucie Lu and just had to blog about it because the whole process was fantastic. I have been watching her website for a while waiting until I had a little money to buy one of the many beautiful dresses. When I finally did, the whole experience was probably the best I've ever encountered for online shopping. I first ordered a different dress which I received just 3 days after I placed the order. Sadly, it didn't fit and they website showed that they were out of the size I needed, so I chose the Tatum dress instead. It had a bit of a price difference which wasn't a problem. Once I shipped it back I received a call from the very helpful and nice Lucie who informed me that my return had been received and she collected additional info from me regarding the price difference. So, to put the timing into perspective, she contacted me on Friday and by Monday my new dress was on the front porch.  From the original dress purchase & receiving to my return and 2nd dress was a 1 and a half weeks. Amazing. I will FOREVER be a Lucie Lu customer!

Now for the dress review. I really like this dress, even more than I thought I would. When I ordered it I thought the material was going to be actual denim, but it ended up being more of a denim jegging type material, so the dress has quite a bit of give. It is very soft and comfortable with a bit of swing, which is nice. It's also a great length. I've posted before that I generally never wear dresses or skirts that are at or below my knee, but this dress is an exception. At 6ft tall, it hits right at my knee and looks great, which really surprised me as generally things that length on my are horrible. I also enjoy the fact that it is light weight but warm. Overall this dress gets an A+ from me.

As you can see the dress hangs very well and has a great shape. I recommend this dress for anyone who is looking for something that you can wear everyday, to work or on a date. 5 Stars!!!

Free Florals!!!!

So over the past few days at work, I've received several compliments on my outfits and overall style. This to me is amazing because I'm not exactly what folks call a "fashionista", in fact I'm nowhere close. I'm a low maintenance wash and wear kind of girl, who values cheap and comfortable, so all of this has been odd to me. Anyhoo, one of the ladies I work with said she had some clothes she was getting rid of and thought I may be able to do something with them. Yesterday when I went in she had a HUGE bag for me with everything you could imagine. When I got home I realized the overall majority wasn't really my thing, but I found 4 GREAT dresses and a top I'm on the fence about, but am keeping. All of the dresses have pockets, which I normally love, but on these dresses they where in odd and unflattering places, so I cut them out and stitched the dress to where you would never know they were there in the first place. A couple of the dresses are a bit too big, so I'll have to adjust them accordingly, but in the meantime they are still completely wearable. The best thing about these dresses for me is the fact that they were free and that I am NEVER lucky when it comes to such things. Here is a sneak at one of the dresses I got and I wore today.

Apologies for the disheveled hair and lack of make up. I just wasn't too fussed today with such things. This dress is so soft and made from a jersey-ish material. It's also surprisingly warm, which will be great for autumn and winter if paired with leggings and boots.

Print Mixing

Hello to all. Print mixing is something I've been wanting to do for some time now, but I haven't had any prints that I felt like putting together, until I went to Old Navy's HUGE sale yesterday and got a ton of stuff at half off the sale price. I ended up walking away with a necklace, 2 cardigans, and a top for $20! It was such a steal. I really like vintage style floral prints and stripes, so that is what I was working with today.

I got a lot of compliments on this outfit today, which was really really nice. I never thought I'd be the kind of gal who got clothing compliments. I really liked the effect of mixing prints, especially with variations of the same color.

Lost Package

I am super sad and peeved today. During the 2nd week of October I ordered The Premium Lace Trim Organza Waisted Dress (which is now sold out) and was extremely excited about receiving it, as I have wanted a dress like this for a VERY LONG time. For the first time I chose standard shipping instead of express, because I didn't have a lot of extra money and thought since I had always received my other orders so quickly that it wouldn't be a big deal. Not to mention I lived in London for almost 5 years and shipped stuff back and forth constantly and it never took more than a week and a half. Well, I was wrong. It's been almost a month and it still hasn't been delivered and I'm irritated about it. I really wanted to wear this dress to dinner for my husband's birthday next week, but now I don't think it's going to happen and I don't have the time or money to find something else. I made them aware of it after it was a week late and I was told to give it until the 3rd of November, which I did. I emailed them on the 3rd and haven't heard anything back yet. I guess I'll end up having to get a refund, but I'd rather have my dress. Ugh.

In case the link didn't work, here is the dress I SHOULD have received.

Happy Mid-Term Election Day!

Today is the first day in Austin of seasonable-ish weather. It was lovely, windy, and in the 70°s. I had the day off and with my free time, I headed down to my district polling station and voted. I'm a huge geek when it comes to politics. I LOVE to vote. I love everything about it like, the over-enthusiastic volunteers at the polling station, the half assed red, white, and blue crepe paper,  the little semi-private booths, and the look on peoples faces once they've finished, like they've just done the world a favor. Non, of this enthusiasm on my behalf is for irony, as I truly enjoy the process.
I spent the rest of the day with my husband watching the 1st and 2nd seasons of Flight of the Conchords for billionth time.

Here's my festive Mid-Term Election Day Outfit:

Today, my husband took theses photos, (I normally self-timer all my photos) which was nice, but I felt so goofy posing for them, which I think shows.
