Happy Halloween!!!!

Halloween is my favorite holiday, but this year time just got away from me a bit. I was more on top of my game in London with my DIY costumes and parties, but alas, this year, not so much. So I'll be going back to an older Halloween tradition that my husband and I used to do on Halloween nights such as this, Chinese take-a-way, horror films, wine, and handing out candy, which works just fine for me. This year I think we will be returning to such horror classics as Nosferatu, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, and a little Young Frankenstein for good measure. The last 2 films are my ALL TIME favorites, as you just cannot beat German Expressionist film sets and a Gene Wilder/Mel Brooks combo!

Even though I didn't have a costume this year, I will leave you with my favorite ones from the last 2 years, that way I won't seem so much of a spoil sport.

After looking through my photos I realized that I didn't have a photo of the whole chicken costume, so I'll have to give you a kind of lame rundown so you can use your imagination. The chicken costume consisted of a yellow feather boa around the neck and an orange one coming out of the back of my skirt as a plume and orange knee high socks for my chicken legs. Apologies for the poor quality cat photo.

My So Called Teen Angst

Last night I held a My So Called Life marathon at my house with some ladies that I hadn't seen since high school. It was a really nice night. Some of the people knew each other and some didn't but everyone got along really well and hopefully made new friendships. I went all out for the planning and refreshments. I ended up making cupcakes, lemon bars, queso, and quesadillas which are always a hit and everything went really quickly.

My So Called Life was just one of those shows that we all loved as teenagers and still holds up really well, besides all of the innately cheesey touches, like the fact that for some reason the bad boys are almost always illiterate, (Jared Leto from My So Called Life and James Franco in Freaks & Geeks) for example. But, it's a show that most can identify with. At one point we were all Angela Chase, we all had our Jordan Catalano, and had a friend just like Rayanne, and that's what made the show so great. It interpreted the feeling and experience of being a teenager perfectly and we could all relate. As soon as the show came on we basically just started talking about it and reminising about our favorite bits and kind of forgot that we were watching it, but that was great and ended up being really funny.

My favorite part of the evening was seeing how everyone had changed and hearing what they had gone through over the past 8 years. I ended up feeling really proud about how my high school friends turned out and how they handled different situations. I was able to rekindle some friendships that I really never wanted to lose in the first place and I am really happy that it worked out and am now planning to see everyone again soon.

Unfortunately I didn't take any photos of the evening, so I'll have to leave you with images from the show that got us all back together. Let the flow of nostalgia begin!

Wear Purple!

In memory of the recent (and all) suicides due to homophobia, October 20th has been chosen as the day to show your support to LGBT folks everywhere by wearing purple. I am a heterosexual lady with a lot of gay friends and I've seen and heard the horrible things that they've gone through due to the ignorance and bigotry of homophobia. I'm shocked and appalled at how anyone's sexual orientation should be a factor in how they are treated. I could rant for a while on this topic, but will leave it with this...today, wear purple.
I've been doing the whole dress over skinny jeans a lot recently. It allows me to wear my shorter dresses around the kids at work without showing any skin, plus it gives me the freedom of jeans which is something I rarely experience.  Today I went pretty heavy on the layering. The dress is VERY low cut, so I put a frilly white top over it and threw on my purple cardigan on top. Seeing that it's still about 85° here in Austin I shucked that cardigan pretty fast. Despite all the layers it is very comfy and of course versatile which is the beauty of layering.

Outfit Details:
Cardigan: Old Navy
White Button Up Top: Target
Dress: Target
Skinny Jeans: Torrid

Bad Blogger

I have been such a bad blogger as of late! It's been too long since I've posted an OOTD or anything at all for that matter. I need to get back on things! I've been spending a lot of time trying to fix up our apartment recently and it has surprisingly dominated a lot of my time, but has been completely worth it as I had been meaning to so for quite some time. Here are a few of my favorite new changes.

I finally framed my anatomical model

Our apartment decor makes very little sense unless you know us. It's hard to describe, but I collect Victorian natural history, death masks and 40s-60s furniture if that gives you any idea.

Well, in the next few days I will post some outfits as well as my 5 defining items, which I've been meaning to do. Until then bye!
