Big Print

Yesterday I ordered the dress below. I really like the print, but am not too keen on the shape. I am sure that can be fixed with a belt, cardigan, tights, and flats, but I am worried about how it will fit. It had pretty mixed reviews about the fit and size, so we'll see in 5 to 7 days.

In the mean time here is what I wore today. You may recognize this dress as the gray version of the dress I wore a little over a week ago.

The bad thing about this dress as it wrinkles really badly, which I'm sure you can see.

What I Wore Today

Well, nothing special going on today, just running some errands and heading over to visit with the folks. Here's what I am wearing...

Apologies for the blurry photo, not the best lighting today.
This was my college graduation dress from June 2009 and I haven't worn it since then, until today. I figured it was time. The dress is pretty low cut, so for today I wore a sleeveless, black tank for some extra coverage.

Mild-Mellow-Sweet

Today was filled with period homes and antique shops. My folks are looking for to buy a house built in the early 1900s in a small Texas town, which I love. I ended up going with my dad to check out the houses and while we were there I stopped by an interesting antique shop filled with crappy, overpriced furniture, but really cheap vintage ephemera. I ended up with 2 cigar boxes & a 4th grade text book from 1964 with amazing illustrations that I can use to make jewelery. It was a pretty nice day.

Here was today's outfit

Below are photos of what I bought at the antique shop and a couple of necklaces that I made out of the book.

Today's Outfit Worn 2 Ways

Good Afternoon Ladies!

Not too much happening today. I mostly just did some job searching, took Penny for a walk, & caught up with some reading, (currently, The Marquis De Sade: A Life by Neil Schaeffer, which is very good). Nothing too special, so I had some time to add to the blog.

Outfit of the Day 2 Different Ways:
Today I'm playing with the whole skirt as a shirt thing. It's something that I have done before, but not with this particular skirt. I rarely ever wear anything that resembles pants, but I like these shorts and haven't worn them in like 2 years, so today is an exception. It's also worth noting that this skirt also makes a very cute mini dress.

Cardigan: Old Navy
Shorts: Lane Bryant
Belt: Target
Necklace: Christmas gift from husband from Blue Genie Art Bazaar
(although the necklace was bought at the Art Bazaar, the artist has an Etsy shop)

I love this outfit, it's just so comfortable and will work nicely in the fall and winter if jeans are substituted for the shorts. And as mentioned before, the skirt also makes a fantastic mini dress!

Turning this skirt into a mini dress makes a great outfit for a date night or a night out with friends.

Moths & Coffee

Waking up from an eventful night out with friends isn't always the most pleasant feeling. Ugh, I guess it is a sign that I am getting older and that I need a coffee.

Today's outfit has some of my favorite color combinations.  I am such a sucker for deep, rich colors like chocolate browns, dark grays, mustard, teals, and purples, so today I wanted to put some of those together.

There is an interesting thing about this dress. This is the 2nd one I bought, which I ordered online. The first was a gray XL that I bought in the actual store. It fit nicely but was just a tiny bit snug across the hips when I sat down, but I really liked it so I bought it. Initially I wanted the purple version, but they didn't have my size in the store so I decided to order from the website. I saw that they had it in the Women's Plus section, so I bought the purple version above online, but decided to order a size up for the extra room in the hips. When I got it I was surprised at how much bigger it actually was. It is about 3 inches longer (which is nice because I don't have to wear it with leggings), and it had significantly more room in the hips which caused it to hang in a less flattering way. All that being said I kept it because the color is great and I love that I don't have to wear leggings or tights underneath it. Also, this one has pockets, which the one I bought in the shop does not, so yay for pockets!

On a totally unrelated topic, I received a fantastic and unexpected gift in the mail today. I lived in London from 2005-2009 while attending art school and while there I met the most amazing and talented people that I have ever come across. They became a second family and I miss them dearly! Well, I turned 26 at the end of last month, and my old flatmate, a very talented actress, sent me an amazing birthday gift that I just received.

It always makes me really sad when I come across old family photos that end up in vintage shops and I always buy them so they have a home and will be taken care of. My friend knew that, so she found these for me when she was in Estonia & I LOVE them! It was such a wonderful thing to receive. I can't wait to do something with them.

Rainy Days & Mondays

Ah, Texas heat at 102° gives way to a humid 90°, but you know what, I'll take that. Today was spent with my friend Michelle that I hadn't seen for a while. She took me out for a late birthday lunch at Kim Phung, yummy, yummy! The rest of the day we spent buying craft supplies and making things. So far 2 necklaces and a set of sweater clips that I am very pleased with. All and all a lovely day.

As this is a blog devoted to clothes for chubbier gals, I should probably do my first Outfit of the Day. Seeing that I wasn't able to post anything yesterday, there will be 2 outfits, the first from Sunday and the second from today.

Apologies for the blurry photo and smug look, I took it with my phone.

Dress: Torrid
Cardigan: Target
Headband: Target (this season)
Earrings: Used to be my mother's

I love this dress! It fits like a glove, but is lined with polyester, so it can get warm in hotter weather, but nothing too bad. Also, I'm 6 feet tall and it hits about 4 inches above my knee, so leggings or tights for me are a must, but might not be if you are shorter or more daring.

This outfit is from today.

Try to ignore my raccoon looking dog in the background. She looks a bit demonic.

Dress: ASOS Curve (last season, but still on the website in the clearance section)
Cardigan: Old Navy 4 or 5 year olds
Belt: Target
Leggings: Torrid
Necklace: DIY
Shoes: Target

This is by far my favorite summer outfit. It is so comfortable, light weight, and more than anything, it is super feminine and just makes me feel pretty. The great thing about this outfit is that it will also work well for the fall and spring with a change of tights and cardigan.

Hello All

Hi,
So, after being laid off and spending a large portion of my time online looking for a job, I came across the Fatshionista community and loved it. So much helpful information for the chubby set on where to find cute and fashionable clothes at a great price, so I decided to start a blog as well.

I've called my blog "Pretty Penny Mae" after my lovely little terrier Penny, who is always the best inspiration!

Jeans for me are a nightmare as I have wide hips but much smaller legs leaving me feeling like a bit of mushroom in skinny jeans & swimming in jeans that fit my hips. Therefore I rarely ever wear any kind of jeans or trousers instead, I live and die by leggings, knee high socks, skirts and dresses.

I'll be starting my clothing posts this weekend, but for now here are photos of Penny & I so we can get acquainted.

Just to clarify, I'm not one of those people who dress up their dogs. I had to get her a rain coat for when I take her out because she hates being wet.
